Well, once again, I’m late with my end-of-year review. Better late than never, right?
Last time I wrote about the challenge was in September; I had just reached 646 miles and I was a little behind on mileage. Thankfully, I was able to catch up at the very last minute and I made it to 1000 miles just before the end of the year! Yay!
So, here’s the breakdown…
In 2019, I ran a total of 1000.8 miles (from 704.1 the previous year). It represents 188 runs and almost 215 hours of running. I was lucky to spend a good deal of that time in beautiful places – most often the Peak District.
I hit the trails for a total of 283.7 miles. We also bought a treadmill in March so I ran 208.5 miles indoors. It was not as boring as I thought it would be!
My highest mileage month was May with 102.4 miles. I also ran my longest ever run in May – a 16-mile sightseeing run around London. It’s such a fun way to explore the city!
The following month was not as lucky – I struggled with hay fever (living in an area surrounded by rapeseed fields doesn’t help) so June was my lowest mileage month with only 68.9 miles.
I reached 1000 miles on my birthday. We headed to the Peak District to introduce our friend Anthony to trail running with an easy run around Stanage Edge. It was a really fun day filled with laugher, mud and cute puppies – in my opinion, the perfect way to mark turning a year older!
That’s it for 2019!
I have to admit, I was glad to see the challenge end. I was so fixated on putting in the miles that my motivation vanished and running started to feel like a chore. It was such a relief to reach 1000 miles and be able to take a break!
I took some much-needed time away from my trainers in January, did plenty of yoga and decided to wait before setting myself running goals for 2020.
I still haven’t set any goals – Edward and I talked about maybe signing up for a race later in the year, but that’s it. For now, I just enjoy running without any kind of pressure…
I know I have already said this but WOOHOO congratulations! I’m so proud of you getting to your goal and finishing! I’m sure It was the very best of feelings
